Point of confluence #1 : a rich day of meetings and collective exchange

On Thursday December 12, the Namur 2030 team organized two information sessions and a press conference on the project to bid for the title of European Capital of Culture 2030.

The event was marked by the enthusiasm and commitment of local citizens, associations and cultural players. Here’s a look back at a day rich in exchanges and discoveries.

How far have we got?

Following the submission of a serious application and a pertinent oral defense before a European jury last October, Namur was selected for the final phase of the bid to become European Capital of Culture 2030.

Now, having received feedback from the jury, the team is back at work. Some points still need to be clarified, while others are well underway.

Information, co-creation and work meetings are taking place, with the aim of submitting an even more substantial dossier next July.

An artistic project under the mantra of Confluences
Namur, like the whole of Europe, is going through a period of diffluence. In hydrology, diffluence is the point at which a river divides into several branches, never to join again. In our societies, it’s a phenomenon experienced everywhere: divisions, nationalism and identitarian withdrawal contribute to the rise of various forms of racism and discrimination.

There are a thousand ways of naming the local and international crises we are witnessing, and the ruptures they entail between self and other, between here and elsewhere, between tradition and modernity. But there may not be a thousand ways to
solutions. In Namur, we propose confluence.

How can you support the project?

One of the essential conditions for Namur to become European Capital of Culture in 2030 is the mobilization of the region’s vital forces: businesses and associations, of course, but also you, the inhabitants who will be the Confluenceurs or Confluenceuse of our project!

All the ways to support the project

Beyond the formal presentations, this session was a time for exchange and conviviality. Participants were able to ask questions and share ideas, creating a genuine dialogue between the project leaders and the audience. This spirit of openness and collaboration is at the heart of the Namur 2030 philosophy.
