September 24, 2024: a powerful day for Namur 2030

On September 24, 2024, the Namur 2030 team and the people of Namur learned the final verdict of the ECOC 2030 jury together—and symbolically carried forward the momentum of the city’s bid.

This Tuesday, September 24, was a day to remember. The Namur 2030 team travelled to Brussels to hear, live, the final decision from the European jury: would Namur, Leuven, or Ghent be named European Capital of Culture for 2030?

Meanwhile, back in Namur, many residents had gathered at La Nef to watch the live broadcast—produced by local media outlet Boukè—in an atmosphere filled with tension, pride, and hope. Everyone was united in support of a bid that represented months (even years!) of collective effort.

Early in the afternoon, the winning city was announced: Leuven takes the title. In Namur, a wave of emotion swept through the room. Yes, there was disappointment—but it was quickly replaced by a deep and overwhelming pride. Because what we built together is more than just a bid. It’s a movement, a vision, a shared momentum.

Later that day, the Namur 2030 team returned home to a warm welcome. And as planned—regardless of the outcome—the evening’s celebration went ahead: concerts, reunions, laughter, and above all, a clear message: “This is not the end. It’s the beginning of something new.”

Thank you 💛

Thank you to everyone who carried this project, from near or far. To the artists, citizens, partners, volunteers… On September 24, we may not have won the title—but we gained something far greater: a united community. A shared vision. And the desire to keep dreaming, together.
