July 3, 2024 – Recap of the Namur 2030 Monthly Information Session

On Wednesday, July 3rd, the Namur 2030 team was energized by the monthly information session for the candidacy project aiming for the title of European Capital of Culture 2030. This event was marked by the enthusiasm and commitment of citizens, associations, and cultural actors of the territory. Here is a recap of an evening rich in exchanges and discoveries.

An opportunity for Namur to shine

The session began with a detailed presentation of the ambitions and perspectives offered by the title of European Capital of Culture. The Namur 2030 team explained what this candidacy represents: a unique opportunity to highlight the cultural and heritage wealth of Namur and its surroundings. Securing this title would not only be a prestigious recognition but also a lever to attract visitors, artists, and investors, thus stimulating the economic and social development of the region.

Namur’s strengths: a territory to showcase

The speakers then addressed the specific strengths of Namur that make this candidacy a solid proposition. From its remarkable historical and architectural heritage to its dynamic and innovative artistic scene, Namur has many arguments in its favor. The city is also a geographical and cultural crossroads, a bridge between Wallonia and the rest of Europe, offering a natural openness to international collaborations.

Building a candidacy: a collective project

One of the most enriching aspects of this session was the discussion on the process of building the candidacy. It is a collective project, involving not only cultural and political institutions but also citizens and local associations. Every suggestion brought by the participants helps to refine and enrich the candidacy dossier. This participative approach is essential for the project to faithfully reflect the aspirations and identity of Namur and its inhabitants.

Beyond formal presentations, this session was also a moment of exchange and conviviality. Participants were able to ask all their questions and share their ideas, creating a genuine dialogue between the project leaders and the public. This spirit of openness and collaboration is at the heart of the Namur 2030 philosophy.

The evening continued with the inauguration of the EXPO LABO I // PIMP MY WRITE x V LY exhibition, organized by the team of the Comptoir des Ressources Créatives (CRC). An exhibition that highlights local creativity and captivated the visitors. The artistic discovery took place in a relaxed atmosphere, complemented by a tasting of local products: the craft beers from Brasserie Houppe and the delicious biscuits from La Biscuiterie Namuroise. A treat for the taste buds that added a touch of indulgence to an already rich evening.
